Zein's background

Zein originally qualified as a speech and language therapist in Cardiff and has over 30 years paediatric experience. Zein’s work in the NHS included 11 years as a highly specialist clinical lead. This role involved leading a small team of specialist therapists, and included providing supervision, delivering specialist training, and providing formal second opinions across a Health Board and two Education Authorities.

After leaving the NHS, Zein worked with the national, parent led speech and language charity, Afasic, as a policy and then information officer.

Since these roles, Zein has built up her independent practice, working with families and supporting other professionals through supervision, training and mentoring.

Zein has extensive experience of:

  • assessment, diagnosis and therapy for complex speech and language needs;

  • developing genuine collaborative working with parents, carers, and professionals;

  • working in educational settings supporting the individual, class, and whole setting;

  • devising and delivering training that is practical and tailored; and

  • supporting, coaching and supervising speech and language therapists at all levels of experience.

Post graduate professional development/skills

Zein has a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Wales (1990) and a MSc in Language and Literacy from the University of Sheffield (2018).

Zein is a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).

Continuing professional development is essential to comply with professional requirements from HCPC and RCSLT. This involves a range of post graduate activities such as attendance at conferences and specialist study days, as well as academic study and reflective work-based learning.

Zein receives regular professional supervision of her practice from suitably qualified, registered speech and language therapists.
